Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Following six days of incessant rainfall in West Bengal due to the impact of Cyclone Michaung in the Bay of Bengal, temperatures have started to drop, ushering in a renewed cold spell. According to the Meteorological Department's statement on Friday, Kolkata experienced 30.4 mm of rain in the last 24 hours, resulting in a notable decrease in the maximum temperature to 21.01 degrees Celsius, four degrees below the normal range.
Despite the drop, the minimum temperature in the capital city remains at 19.4 degrees Celsius, still three degrees above the usual low. The effects of the continuous rain extend beyond Kolkata, impacting areas like Howrah, Hooghly, North and South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, and Bardhaman, leading to a widespread increase in cold conditions.
Additionally, the districts of Purulia, Bankura, Murshidabad, North and South Dinajpur are also experiencing heightened cold, while North Bengal areas such as Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong are already grappling with low temperatures.
